The statue of Greyfriars Bobby is the peg from which Candlemaker Row is hung like a scarf winding down to the Grassmarket.
The street's name reminds us of far-off times lit by candles. Tallow candles were made here centuries ago.
You can amble down from Greyfriars Bobby to my shop, "STILL LIFE", 54 Candlemaker Row, the current home of Desirabilia.com.

AS OF 14/10/2023 "STILL LIFE" IS CLOSED. Most of my stock is in storage and is inaccessible. I will hide the items on desirabilia.com which are currently not available.

A group consisting of a man, youth and boy. Their identity is being researched so there is not much I can say. There is a watermark.

This fascinating eighteenth century watercolour depicts a double screw wine press in action. It might be Italian but it is being researched.

Did you first hear of Redonda in the Johnny Depp movies, "Pirates of the Caribbean" or in the computer game, "Vendetta: Curse of the Raven's Cry" or its soundtrack album composed by Victor Stoyanov and Sebastian Dierkes? Perhaps you know the name from the contemporary British artist, Stephen Chambers', "Court of Redonda", the set of one hundred paintings shown at the Venice Biennale in 2017, inspired by the diplomatically unrecognised, "Kingdom of Redonda". Or if you are interested in Conservation and Environmental Reinstatement, you might have heard of the outstanding success story of the restoration of Redonda by international agencies, a project covered by the National Geographic magazine.

Here is a small watercolour of the kind executed by artists on "hydrographic survey" ships of the Royal Navy. I can't locate an earlier view.
